Prix Odebrecht de la recherche historique - Clarival do Prado ValladaresRèglement

1. PREMISES

1.1. The “Clarival do Prado Valladares” award is a Odebrecht Group initiative aimed at using financial sponsorship to encourage original historical research and publications that will make a real contribution to Brazilian historiography by broadening our knowledge and understanding of Brazil’s economic history, socio-political development and artistic expressions while enriching its bibliography on the events, processes and people whose memory must be disseminated and preserved.

2. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

2.1. Any research project that meets the above requirements can compete for the “Clarival do Prado Valladares” Award, on the understanding that this is an original study whose focus is in no way similar to previously published works.

2.2. The results of the research project will be published in the form of a documentary or analytical text accompanied by illustrations and published as a book with the same high quality and sophistication that characterizes the Odebrecht Cultural Works collection.

2.3. The Odebrecht Group will provide the funding required to carry out the winning project, covering all the costs, including research, publication and distribution.

2.4. The Odebrecht Group and the author of the winning project will sign a publishing agreement. Two different editions of the book will be published:

- A non-commercial edition to be distributed by Odebrecht free of charge at the Group’s sole discretion;

- A commercial edition produced in partnership with a previously identified publishing house.

2.5. Copyright for the published works will be owned exclusively by the Odebrecht Group, which will transfer royalties to the Sociedade Amigos de Clarival do Prado Valladares. The author will transfer his or her rights to the Odebrecht Group irrevocably and irreversibly, and will be paid a percentage of the total cost of the project.

2.6. Odebrecht will be responsible for coordinating the editorial production of the book and the negotiations and legal processes needed to hire the partner publishers.

2.7. The selection of the sponsored project will be carried out in two stages:

- Pre-selection of a maximum of 5 projects by the Odebrecht Cultural Committee, established by the Group’s Social and Cultural Action Policy;

- A Panel of Judges made up of persons of recognized knowledge in the areas covered by the Award, and a representative of the Group, to be invited to participate by the Odebrecht Cultural Committee, will choose the winning project from among the 5 finalists. The Panel will include three to five Judges.

2.8. The Award will be bestowed on as many projects as the Panel of Judges deems worthy. However, only one publication will be released per year according to a schedule to be agreed with the authors of the winning projects.

2.9. The decisions of the Committee and the Panel of Judges will be final and binding. Both bodies may decide not to bestow the prize at all if they decide that none of the entries meets the contest’s requirements.

2.10. The following are not eligible to compete for the Award: its Judges, and members of Odebrecht Group companies (subsidiaries and affiliates) or any institution directly linked to the Group.

2.11. When submitting an entry, the author(s) agree to the terms and conditions of the Award, authorize the publication of their work, and will be held legally responsible for plagiarism, unauthorized reproduction and other crimes under Brazilian Intellectual Property Law.
