Braskem was selected for the seventh time to join the BM&BOVESPA Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE). The new portfolio includes 51 shares from 38 companies that represent 18 sectors and R$ 961 billion in market value, equivalent to 43.72% of the total value of the companies with shares traded on the stock exchange. The index will apply from January 2 to December 31, 2012.

The company’s permanence on the index reflects its commitment to good corporate governance practices and sustainable development. Braskem considers health, safety and environment issues to be business values integrated with its operations. It is also focused on research and biopolymer development.

From 2002 to 2010, the company reduced its personal accident rate with and without time loss by 80% and became a global reference in its sector of operation. It also improved its ecoefficiency indicators: a 67% reduction in the generation of waste; 39% reduction in the generation of effluents; 15% reduction in electric energy consumption; and 19% reduction in water consumption.
